SCRIPT WRITING

If you’ve done any script writing before than you probably know about Final Draft. However, you probably don’t know about free options that might help you cut your over head and make it easier to wrote in groups.

img_logo_header Zhura is a free web that makes it easy to share your works publicly or just with friends. They are also working on making it easier for multiple people to work on one script at the same time. Plus, being how the software is all web based all your scripts are saved for you on their servers. They save all your versions. So going back to an older draft is a piece of cake.

Celtx is a free to use open source project based out of Australia. It is cross platform and does not just focus on writing your script. You can import drawings, pictures, movies, and audio files to attach to your characters and/or locations to help you present or visualize your project. There are also some tools to help you plan out your shoot. Plus, they offer free space on their server so you can upload your script for easy back up and file sharing.

PLOTBOT is another free online web base script writing website based out of California. Its a trim script writing tool that has everything you need to write a script.

DISTRIBUTION

IndieFlix is a unique film distribution company that strives to empower un-established independent filmmakers to make money off of major online film distributors. Though they are selective about which movies they accept (it should be an “official selection” at a film festival), it is free to apply and if your film is chosen you retain all rights. Indieflix will market your film to their own users as well as to sites like Hulu and Netflix in return for a 30 percent commission. Recently, Indieflix has branched into social networking-powered marketing and educational distribution.

IndieGoGo is an online social marketplace connecting filmmakers and fans to make independent film happen. The platform provides filmmakers the tools for project funding, recruiting, and promotion, while enabling the audience to discover and connect directly with filmmakers and the causes they support.

Kickstarter.com Is a site that will help you raise money to pay for your creative projects. It has an odd twist where in you declare the amount of money you want to raise and set the amount of time you want to raise it in. If you make it before your deadline you get the money. If you come short of your deadline all the money get returned to the contributors.

Creative cow is a great place for forums, tutorials, and industry news. They have some great tips and tricks for many software titles. They are also a great resource for answers to those odd little problems that arise in every project.

VisualFXtuts Is a big resource for finding out how to do cool things on a wide selection of software titles.

Creative Workflow Hacks Is a site that is centered around work flow tips for Final Cut Pro user. One artical that I have found to be very help full is his ‘How to use FCPToAE’ which is a script he wrote that makes it easy to move FCP time lines into After Effects.
