TREK IN THE PARK

Trek in the Park RETURNS! This summer, we present an episode with one of the most classic and enduring villains to ever cross paths with Kirk and crew in the final frontier, KHAN.

A perfectly preserved, genetically enhanced warrior from the 20th century, Khan, is revived by the crew of the USS Enterprise upon discovering his adrift ship. They deduce Khan was the kind of 20th century leader who could have conquered the Earth in his time. However, not everyone is suspicious of Khan’s intentions, one such person is Lt. Marla McGivers, the ship’s historian. She is so moved by Khan’s glorious ambition, she assists him in hijacking the Enterprise to finish the conquest Khan Noonian Singh started 200 years ago. Will this be the last generation for the crew of the USS Enterprise?

Portland actors accompanied with live music and effects bring this classic piece of television to life!

Shows are at 5:00pm Saturdays and Sundays July 10-August 1 (4 weekends! 8 shows total!) Be sure to get there early for a good viewing spot!

FREE TO THE PUBLIC. ALL AGES WELCOME

Spend a day in the park, bring a picnic and BOLDLY GO!!

The DSLR Cinematography Guide Updated

The No film school updated their video DSLR  guide with a new section to help people pick which video enabled still camera is right for them.

“This guide focuses on Canon’s EOS series of DSLRs (1D Mark IV5D Mark II7DRebel T1i,Rebel T2i), but also pertains to Nikon’s cameras (D90D300sD3s), as well as other video-capable DSLRs like the Panasonic Lumix GH1Pentax K-7 HD, and Sony’s NEX series. If you’re wondering why some DSLRs shoot video and others don’t — or why none of them did a couple years ago — check out Gizmodo’s article. At this point in time I believe the Canon DSLRs offer the best quality and flexibility for filmmakers, due in part to their superiorh.264-based codec (which is of higher quality than the MJPEG codecs of Nikon and the lower-bitrate AVCHD codec of Panasonic’s offering). However there are several top DSLRs contending for your hard-earned dollars (not all Canons); each camera has its particular strengths and weaknesses, which should help you decide which DSLR is right for your particular needs.”

FILMUSIK GULLIVER’S TRAVELS

FILMUSIK :Cartoon voice-actors, sound effects artists and an orchestra perform a live soundtrack for vintage animation This summer Filmusik is turning the Hollywood Theatre into a recording soundstage. A team of 20 Portland professionals from the field of movie soundtracks create the sound for a classic animation live in the pit. As the movie plays on the big screen, 4 cartoon actors give voice to the on-screen characters, sound effects artists create the noises from over a hundred foley props and the Filmusik Chamber ensemble performs the music from the film including many musical numbers and several sing-a-longs. For cartoon buffs, family, new music lovers and anyone who’s ever wanted to know how they make that funny noise when Daffy Duck falls over. Filmusik: Gulliver’s Travels is a new way to experience movies and sound. Incidentally, it’s also the only place in town where you can sing along to a bouncing ball with a live orchestra and chorus backing you up! Oregon has always been particularly gifted when it comes to cartoon voice-over actors. Mel Blanc, graduate of Lincoln High School was the most widely recognized voice actor in the world, the voice of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig and hundreds of others. Filmusik: Gulliver’s Travels features 4 contemporary Portland talents: James Dineen, Todd Tolces, Chris Porter and Bill Barry. They have their hands full dubbing this cartoon with a cast of colorful singing Lilliputians. The voice-overs are directed by Sam A. Mowry, long time radio actor and Filmusik collaborator David Ian and his team of film foley artists create the sound effects live. Tapping shoes together for footsteps, rattling doorknobs and crinkling cellophane. The props are flying as they keep time with the movie, matching every rattle, whistle and explosion. “As a long time fan of the Fleischer Bros. work, it’s a thrill for me to be able to work with this wonderful animation. It’s also a delight to be able to gently update some of the SFX while preserving that “vintage sound” that is so much part of the experience.” – Marc Rose, Sound Designer The originally composed score by Galen Huckins draws on elements from the musical-toon era of the film with a more contemporary sensibility. The ensemble features strings, piano, clarinets and mallet percussion. “Music from animation tends to be very fast paced, the characters move with a musical rhythm of their own that the score adapts and transforms to its own purposes. It sounds a little schizophrenic played by itself, but its a lot of fun to perform. – Galen Huckins, Composer Fleischer’s animated feature from 1939 tells Jonathon Swift’s travel adventure in a Betty Boop meets Moby Dick sort of way. There’s songs and dance, live sound effects, live voices and live music. It’s like Fantasia if Mickey Mouse were Goliath and the orchestra was right in your lap! With an original score performed live by the Filmusik Chamber ensemble and a cast of 20 performers. GULLIVER’S TRAVELS is a movie experience not to miss. It’s a rare chance to see professional soundtrack artists at work. Get yourself some popcorn and be prepared to sing along!! Filmusik: Gulliver’s Travels July 16th, 21st, 23rd at 7pm July 18th at 2pm Hollywood Theatre Tickets $12/$10 Students & Seniors

Casting for “Working Stiff”

Casting for short film: Working Stiff

Soto Cinco Media is the home of “Working Stiff”, a short film that tells the story of the struggle to get–and keep–a job in a tough market.

Casting has begun through Oregon Media Network and other internet outlets.

Tentative shooting dates are June 26 and 27 in the Portland Metro area.

Read-through is scheduled for June 19, 2 to 5 PM.

Seeking talent for the following parts:

DAD: male, voice-over

RESUME DOCTOR: I would prefer to have an actual HR professional who wants to play themselves in this part. However, I may have to resort to using an actor.

MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER: Again, I would prefer to have an actual speaker who wants to play themselves in this part. However, if you can give an outstanding performance on how to be happy at work and how to stay happy while searching for work, or any combination  or derivation from those themes, please feel free to contact me about this part.

LOCATION: I still need to secure a location for the job workshop scene. If you have any suggestions or ideas for a classroom type setting, I’d appreciate them.

Thanks!
