If you’re one of the new Digital SLR users coming over from the 3 CCD miniDV cameras, I’m sure you’re just as frustrated as I am by the lack of a focus ring. When focusing or adjusting your zoom, it can jolt the camera, and you can twist beyond about a half spin before you have to readjust your hand. Jus plain annoying. This video demonstrates how to build one on the cheap for under $5 in parts.

“Mr. Average” is the newest thing to hit Portland sketch comedy!
The brainchild of one Tyler Spencer (formerly of Homeless Corner and currently the executive producer at Coffee For Drew Productions), this new collection of uproariously delinquent comedy shorts aims to make a substantial contribution to the laugh muscles of open-minded Portlanders.
Historically, Spencer has made no effort to veer away from potentially offensive topics within his films, but has drawn the line before utilizing shock value as a comedic medium. Seemingly off-limit subject matter, satire, social commentary, and flat-out irreverence are all to be expected at the debut screening of this new Portland-based brand of sketch comedy: “Mr. Average Presents….”
Also on hand to showcase hysteria-inducing films will be members of award-winning group Cinema Queso: reputable jokester Rob Campbell, and notorious funnyman John C. Meyers.

Two Up is one of my favorite free tools for Mac OS X. It enables you to hit CMD + OPTION + CTRL and either left or right to instantly fill up half of the screen. This is great for working with multiple programs, especially when mucking through mountains of folders in your project files. Press the quick keyboard shortcuts and throwing finder to only half of the screen to you can drag and drop files into Premiere or Final Cut is wonderful.
The maker of Two Up, Irradiated Software, also makes another helpful application called Size Up, dubbed “The missing window manager.” This pay for utility is like Two Up but with support for multiple monitors, spaces, full screen shortcuts and SnapBack. Highly recommended.
